retrievr / qbic
Craig pointed me to retrievr. Awesome stuff! Reminds me of a Web 1.0 app called QBIC(Query By Image Content) done by the folks at IBM’s Almaden lab 10 years ago.
Looks like others are interested, too:
- TechCrunch on retrievr (…it is a really beautiful piece of technology.)
- LifeHacker’s take (What it lacks in accuracy it makes up for in fun.)
- jwz (But no mattr how many times I tried to draw boobies, it kept showing me flowrs and cats.) [In a roundabout way, I was able to find some.]
Here’s my test. Orange is my favorite color these days. Now, if I could just get an rss feed of the results…
I’m watching Rollergirls on A&E
It’s insane. Excerpt from Jonathan Storm’s review:
These women may take wiseacre aliases, dress outlandishly, and knock each other down as they skate insanely round and round a little oval, but they’re as real as a black eye after a barroom brawl. Their TV show sits you right down, documentary style, into the subculture and the genuine thrills and agony of the competition.
The game is no longer another choreographed performance like wrestling. This is not your daddy’s roller derby.

10 Rules for Dating my Daughter
Still, I want to be fair and open minded about this issue, so I propose his compromise: You may come to the door with your underwear showing and your pants ten sizes too big, and I will not object. However, in order to ensure that your clothes do not, in fact, come off during the course of the date with my daughter, I will take my electric nail gun and fasten your trousers securely in place to your waist.
