Nintendo’s Revolution – more details
Tomorrow, I’ll have Full Auto for the XBox 360 and that’s going to be incredible. I’ve been playing the demo several times a week and I’m really looking forward to the full game, especially multiplayer.
Still, Revolution is what I’m really craving. The DS really showed me that Nintendo can take technology that’s been around for ages (touchscreen + microphone is nothing new for PDAs, for instance) and inspire developers to build really innovative games (Elektroplankton, Nintendogs, Yoshi Touch N’ Go, Kirby’s Canvas Curse). I’ve never imported games before the DS, but this stuff was so compelling that I imported several great titles, despite the inconvenience. I think Revolution is going to knock our socks off. Inexpensively. More details on the Revolution are emerging.
Flip 3D Sample Code
Kam says he’ll make example source available(for accessing the live preview windows used in Flip 3D, Alt-Tab and Taskbar Mouseover) when Vista Beta 2 ships. Thanks Kam!
Vista’s Live Previews of Open Windows(used in Flip 3d and Taskbar Mouseovers) ARE Accessible to Developers!!!!
This is great news! It means anyone can build really cool Flip 3d/Alt-tab replacements, etc. Kam VedBrat says:
We actually do have an API in Windows Vista that allows you to take the contents of one window and present them in another Window. This is what is used in the live previews that show up in the tooltips over taskbar buttons, and can be used by developers in their own creative ways.
So, Kam, thanks for the news! Now, can you post some sample C# that uses the previews to get us started? 🙂
How did they DO that?!
A few months ago, I got an email from Microsoft asking for my mailing address. It seems that someone from Microsoft(Barak, I presume?) thought we deserved an award for the input my coworker(Craig) and I provided while porting one of our products to .NET. So, I filled out the form and forgot about it. Today, we received a really cool glass cube. The cube has 3 blocks of text, each at a different angle, floating within it. Is the text laser-etched? How did they DO it?!
Anyway, it looks great and I really appreciate it – Thanks!
