Windows Vista on my Dell Inspiron 6000d

I installed Vista Beta 2 on my Dell last night.  I like it so far.

All of our Homestead apps work.  Araxis Merge works.  Firefox works.

Vista’s Library(think browser history, but for the file system) and live screen shots on the taskbar are both pretty cool.  I also like the glass effect around windows.

I haven’t found flip3D or Sidebar, yet.  Also, I have a DirectX 9, 64MB Graphics Card (Radeon X300), but I can’t figure out where it tells me if it’s using the GPU to render the UI.

The instant search in the start bar is very cool.

More tomorrow…

WinDirStat

WinDirStat is an excellent tool for visualizing your hard drive layout.

Prepaid XBox Live Subscription cards are eaten by the service if your passport account has other premium Microsoft services attached.

Several XBox Live subscribers are in a suspended state, awaiting Microsoft’s help.  The problem has been around since day one of the XBox 360 launch(I’ve been affected since 11/23/05).  Depending on the duration of the service purchased and whether or not they purchased a headset, some users are out as much as $70.  Also, misguided suggestions from customer support have resulted in people losing game saves.
Major Nelson(XBox Live representative) said on 12/1 that a fix was being tested.  That was 16 days ago.  http://forums.xbox.com/2/1145218/ShowPost.aspx#802691
